Das Einsatzprojekt

Children environments are safe and friendly settings where children feel respected, valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. It is expected that Children and young people have a right to be safe and protected at all times, including when accessing various services like education no matter what is there ability or social status they have. In some schools children they suffer from lack of teachers and other facilities to accommodate challenged kids especially when it comes to children that require special treatments or attention also known as children with special needs. (These includes blind, deaf, slow learners, mentally and physically disabled etc.). Chamazi Community School have a taken effort to create a special class in order to provide accessibility to Kids with special needs to learn at their space.
The class has two teachers with 40+ Children and with diverse special needs. Children at this school among many others need a loving heart, attention, education and friends who can help them find a better life full of opportunities, be successful and most important have happiness life. Children Safer places is a project aiming to increase the overall wellbeing of the children with special needs in the community through various approaches. The project is focusing on the children from the age of 7 to 14 years old

Die Aufgaben der*des Freiwilligen

  • Academic development: Assist in Teaching Languages, Mathematics and Science following the official syllabus and school time table.
  • Social Skills: To train kids to understand basic social skills that will help them to interact well with other people, manner etc.
  • Handcraft activities: Assisting in teach the Children painting, drawing and modeling
  • Body Multicity: Assist in holding things, writing, using small items, folding, dressing up, moving with precision
  • Alternative learning methods: Assisting in preparation of various learning alternative methods that may include various dances, music, educative games and group activities
  • Resource mobilization: To work with local staff to identify potential partners to support various needs of the Children in terms of material and other resources needed.
  • Community engagement: Frequent meetings, workshops with teachers and Parents, home visits etc. encourage parents to bring the Children to school.

Anforderungen

  • English language skills and an interest to learn the local Language (Kiswahili). Language classes will be provided.
  • Interest to work with children & Teens with special needs
  • Open minded and ready to be challenged
  • Interested in other cultures and local realities
  • Patient and committed, Creative and easy to adopt to the situations
  • Have a skills and knowledge on the subjects wishing to teach
  • Basics on sign Language must be useful during the work
  • Proved integrity to work with children and Teenagers (Criminal clearance Certificate will be required from the Country of Origin)

Einsatzort/Unterkunft

Volunteers will be accommodated in the host families located in an eco-village. There are standard houses with three bedrooms, living room and kitchen. The houses are surrounded by nature and green vegetation. Basic accommodation facilities will be provided, and you should expect to share room with either host family member or other volunteer from the same or other projects. Depending on the availability of host families; volunteers shall expect to stay as well at the Youth accommodation in the community.
